SCHEDULE AT A GLANCE!
LYRA/AERIAL HOOP- ALL LEVELS
SATURDAY 10-1130 UP
In this 90 min class, we will focus on circles and spirals! We will look at different ways to get your body around the hoop in fun and interesting ways! We will also look at the most common and sought after rolls , including front & back hip circles, mill circles and elbow rolls, and methods and work on ways to perfect them. We will look at how actually spinning sometimes even helps you get your body to circle around the hoop too! Come circle with me and let's have some fun!
Prerequisites: Students must have taken at least two aerial classes and have the ability to invert and sit up on lyra without assistance. Assistant: Jocelynn Rudig
SILKS/AERIAL FABRIC ALL LEVELS
SATURDAY 12-130 UP
We will learn how to dance with the aerial fabric on the ground. With so much focus on the “aerial” aspect and doing the big fancy tricks, dancing on the floor with the fabric tends to get lost. We will explore various techniques, ideas & improvisation for creating movement with the fabric while remaining on the floor, or close to it. Prerequisite: must know foot locks, be comfortable 6” off the ground with no mats and have a willingness to play!
AERIAL CUBE - ALL LEVELS
SATURDAY 230 - 4 TH
The aerial cube is a great apparatus to start exploring partner work! Come alone or bring a friend. We will explore some partner balancing, shapes, sequences, and basing/flying that will result in lots of fun and some beautiful images in the air! Ability to knee hang and invert in the air helpful, prior aerial experience and basic terminology (straddle up, birds nest) strongly suggested. No prior partner experience required.
RIGGING, ALL LEVELS
SATURDAY 230-4 UP
Aerial workshops and classes are an amazing place to learn so many skills up in the air. Unfortunately most of them have the same problem, they don’t teach you how to get your apparatus up in the air.
In this workshop we will cover the basics of rigging from the top down. Structure evaluation, equipment ratings, inspection and most importantly, the questions you need to ask promoters and venue owners. We will also cover ways to have difficult conversations with other aerialists and riggers you may encounter on your journey as an aerialist. Assistant: Katie Mesmerie
DANCE TRAPEZE, INTERMEDIATE
SATURDAY 430-6 TH
Using single point dance trapeze, students explore ways to rock, shake, rattle, roll, and dance on the apparatus, a sequence to play with on the trap, and the ways to move back to the ground. Focus is on breath, creativity, movement invention, and exploration of a variety of efforts and dynamics. This workshop is for the student who is interested in how the floor connects with the apparatus and all the “yummy space” under and around the apparatus. Assistant: Valerie Morris
CANCELED
Gravity being the relentless adversary it is, most movement on vertical apparatuses eventually moves us downward. But standard climbs are boring and break up an act in an unnecessary way. This workshop will explore some more unusual climbs and sequences that can be woven into the rest of your acts, experiment a little with combining known climbs in new ways and creating your own, and also teach a couple of sequences that magically send you up instead of down.
A CIRQUE PSYCH WORKSHOP
SATURDAY 430-6 GR
Creating and maintaining healthy boundaries is the key to functional professional relationships. The life of a circus professional can be chaotic enough without strained or broken relationships with our colleagues, directors, managers and more. This workshop explores categories and qualities of healthy professional boundaries, and provides concrete tools and exercises for assessing, adjusting, and maintaining good boundaries that help our relationships flourish.
DANCE TRAP, ALL LEVELS
SATURDAY 630-8 TH
SOLD OUT AS OF 2/25
Explore transition pathways on the dance trapeze with Katie Mesmerie, including fundamental poses like half Amazon, zig zag, front/side horse, and more. Together, we'll create a map of entries and exits for each transition skill and balance economy of movement with unique and creative skill connections.
SILKS/AERIAL FABRIC - ALL LEVELS
SATURDAY 230 - 4 AC
Work your brain as we map out crazy connections between wraps on fabric. Some of our work will be practical (sneaky transitions) and some theoretical (work that brain!). This workshop will feature the latest topic that Rebekah has mapped out (whatever is applicable at the time of the workshop).
DUO SILKS/FABRIC
Advanced SUNDAY 230 - 4 AC
This workshop is for advanced students (2+ years vertical experience) who have not yet explored sharing the vertical space with aerial fabric. We will be looking at varying techniques to exist in the air together, and multiple basing positions as options to start your explorations. You do not need a partner to join the class, and we all will learn the basing and flying positions.
SILKS/FABRIC - ALL LEVELS
SUNDAY 10-1130 AC
As we know, everything in silks leads to either belay or wheel down, and in this workshop we're going to look deeper into the belay and work on inventing our own unique and new ways to sequence into them. We will be going over the anatomy of a belay structure to understand the bare bones of what we need, and then getting creative with what we like and what fits our bodies.
COSTUMING - ALL LEVELS
SATURDAY 430-6 UP
Assistant: Lauraleight “Maqi” Ananda
Aerial costumes are their own species! We will discuss & have samples of what to look for in an aerial costume, types of fabrics to use, embellishments, how to sew with stretch fabrics, what kinds of stitches, threads, and where to source materials. We will also look at function and design as well as fabrication techniques. This workshops will be more lecture and show & tell than hands on.
SILKS/FABRIC, ALL LEVELS
SUNDAY 12-130 UP
This workshop is for current and aspiring aerial silks instructors. We will look at how to teach in a progressive manner, specifically looking at how to teach hip key & locks, theory & practice and how to teach varying levels & abilities. Also how progressions can be a pathway to variations on the basics. This workshop is also open to students who want a better understanding for themselves of how to look at silks progressions in their own practice. Assistant Jocelynn Rudig.
INCLUDES:
(9) 1.5 hour workshops
access to vendor booths & roundtable discussions
