DANCING ON INVENTED APPARATUS

A new twist this year with the Invented Apparatus Workshop!

In this workshop, first we’ll warm up by breaking down ballet basics into bite-sized pieces. Using aerial silks & invented apparatus as our barre, you’ll learn basic standing and arm positions, explore typical barre exercises with the added support and challenge of a moving object. We will then take this new movement quality on to the invented apparatus unleashing unique and creative visual elements, while inspiring new pathways of movement.

We will also share some of the lessons learned when designing invented apparatus from scratch.

Jill & Fallon have over 15 years each of aerial & dance experience, choreographing, teaching, performing and exploring.

Jill Katzenberger enjoys flying, flipping, and frolicking in the air...also eating Swedish fish...but not always at the same time. She has been teaching fabric, rope, trapeze, and hoop through Aircat Aerial Arts for over 10 years and performs with The Fractal Circus, Lunar Fire, and The Junkyard Socialites. Jill is an educator, exhibit designer, event producer, and entrepreneur. She has been orchestrating innovative educational experiences for 20+ years and teaches science-based aerial instruction with an emphasis on wrap mechanics.

Fallon is the founder and artistic director of In the Wings. She is a proud Colorado native and has been involved in gymnastics and dance since early childhood. After injuries prevented her from pursuing her gymnastics career, she studied dance under Tony Coppola at Mesa State College. Fallon was introduced to aerial dance in 2010 and instantly fell in love with the art form. She started her training at Frequent Flyers as a member of the apprentice company and spent 7 years with Iluminar Aerial where she wore many hats including Assistant Director. Over the years, Fallon has studied with many different companies and artists including Tanya Burka, Annabelle D’Artois, Daniel Sullivan, Ukoiya Mastin, Elsie Smith, TSNY-LA, the Imperial Flyers High Flying Trapeze Club, and most recently with Hanne Coeckelberghs and Justine Arden. Outside of dance, Fallon is a dedicated GI nurse who enjoys sneaking away to Paris whenever possible, cleaning up French Bulldog and Cane Corso drool, and murder mystery nights with friends.
