Build a Drop - Tina Kalb & Jill Katzenberger
Build a Drop - Tina Kalb & Jill Katzenberger
Silks - Advanced
SUNDAY 2-330p (AC)
There are multiple drops in aerial silks that can be connected, and several common pathways that can be stacked in different ways. This workshop will focus on combining common drops and adding on these pathways from different starting positions. Some of the combinations we may explore include combining a knee drop with a double star, adding on to the 720 to create a 1080, and the many drops where a back cross can be stacked. We will also touch on important considerations to stay safe when adding, combining, or creating drops. From these basics, we can create bigger and more unique drops, where ceiling height, tail management, and our imagination are the main limitations.
Prerequisites: Able to cleanly execute a 720/double fallen angel, fallback-double star, knee drop connected to a single star, and bomb (also called spool or candy cane) connected to single star. Comfortable executing position and direction changes in drops. If you are unsure of the prerequisites, please contact Tina at wxtina@gmail.com
Tina discovered circus arts in 2009 after hearing about it from a colleague and was immediately curious to try. From her first aerial class, she fell in love with the merging of artistry and acrobatic skill of aerial fabric, which is her favorite apparatus. However, she also enjoys working on the dance trapeze, aerial sling, and dabbling in cyr wheel. Tina took her aerial teacher training through Aircat Aerial Arts in 2020 and has been teaching there since that time. She has also taken classes with Tanya Burka, Lisa Natoli, and Terry Crane, and has extensive movement and performance experience in dance, gymnastics, baton twirling, and rock climbing. Additionally, she is a Certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
Tina holds a Master of Science in Atmospheric Science and also works evaluating weather and climate models. The scientist in her enjoys puzzling connections between skills, while the gymnast and dancer enjoys big drops and creating unique transitions and sequences.
Jill Katzenberger enjoys flying, flipping, and frolicking in the air...also eating Swedish fish...but not always at the same time. She has been teaching fabric, rope, trapeze, and hoop through Aircat Aerial Arts for over 10 years and performs with The Fractal Circus, Lunar Fire, and The Junkyard Socialites. Jill is an educator, exhibit designer, event producer, and entrepreneur. She has been orchestrating innovative educational experiences for 20+ years and teaches science-based aerial instruction with an emphasis on wrap mechanics.
